Sunday Afternoon

we sat watching grandma Jadzia
on a sunday afternoon, and
what a way to spend a sunday
feel the past return to you and
i remember well the way her kitchen smelled
“a little bit of this and that” and skimming chicken fat
she puts her glasses on and speaks to the unborn
and welling up in me, a love she buried deep
and i see, i can receive
“i know i’m asking a lot, but we must throw our lot in
not just with other Jews, but all oppressed people too”
and as she says this line i know that she is mine
she’s trying to wrap her head around all the millions dead
and i can’t understand, no i can’t understand
i can’t understand, but she still took her stand
and i see, i can receive
i can receive

All Around Us

i can feel your gaze searching for a place to rest
i am not afraid to discover what is left
you are the future, the one who sees
your face bears the scar of the enemy
and i am a song that you let inside
to look for the warmth that you kept in hiding
the thing that we're looking for is all around us
i am the red in the autumn sky
tree tops catching fire in the dying light
and you are the stone in the flowing stream
i cling to your back and dissolve completely
the thing that we're looking for is all around us
the thing that we're looking for is songs to hold us
the thing that we're looking for is all around us
